Big Girl Room

My little girl is growing up fast. With the boys, I had a set schedule to wean them out of the baby phase. It was in this order: take away the binky, move to a twin bed, then potty training. Paul did these steps according to plan in two month increments (I was a weird first-time mom.) Audrey, however, was potty trained first. Then just a month or so ago we sent her binkies to the Binky Fairy and she got treats in exchange. She had a rough time with this. I was all for just letting her wean herself off of them, even though the boys never had a binky past age 2. But she started wanting one all the time and throwing tantrums and such for them, so we (mostly Jeremy) decided to get rid of them. She still talks about it.
Anyway, all that was left was moving out of the crib and again I was in no hurry (see how 3 kids have wisened me.) I was keeping my eye out for a new bed for her though and last week I found just the one. We went and bought it and I was planning to just keep it in storage, but she was so excited. She talked about it constantly and when she woke up in the morning it was the first thing she asked about. So we set up her big girl room and she loves it. She's done quite well too and has seemed to transition the easiest of my kids. Lesson learned: I guess my kids will let me know when they are ready to grow up.

Love Day

I'm not usually a fan of Valentine's Day. I'm not sure why. I don't have an emotionally scaring back story or anything (go ahead and sing Dr. Doofenshmirtz's I Really Don't Hate Christmas). But this year was different. I was totally into Valentine's Day and it was so fun. I really wanted to get the kids a present. So I wrapped up something for each of them to open in the morning. (The boys got Lego Hero guys and Audrey got a motor home to go with her dollhouse.) The night before they did their Valentines for school and then gave the extras to each other. It was so cute. Audrey carried hers around all day calling them her dollars. Jeremy brought me a sandwich from the Village Baker for lunch. Yum. And then we got the kids a heart shaped Papa Murphy's pizza and went to dinner. I had been really looking forward to our date that night. Jeremy had tried to make some reservations, but apparently you have to call more than 10 days before to get in anywhere, so we ended up going early to Red Lobster since they wouldn't take reservations. We still had an hour and half wait and the food was just ok, but I enjoyed going out together nonetheless. What a great idea to have a day to celebrate all those we love! Who knew?

Sam Had a Birthday

Our Sam-man turned 5! His birthday day was pretty low key--waffles, presents. out to dinner. Then on Saturday we had his buddies over for a Super Mario Pizza Party and then family over later for cake and ice cream. It was a fun day.

Sam has made great friends in our new neighborhood and often has fun playdates: Paul, Elijiah, Gavin, Enoch, Sam, Payton, Jameson (missing: Ainsley)

I had great intentions of making a Super Mario cake, but two parties in one day left little time for that. His cake doesn't look great, but it tasted delicious.

Sam is such a happy kid. He is kind, thoughtful and generous. He'd give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. He is often leaving notes that say, "I love u Dad form Sam." Or drawing pictures of them holding hands. It is well-known that he loves me one hundred and Dad one hundred thousand. He is still very imaginative and seems to always have a story in his head. He is super funny and loves to laugh. His laugh is even funny. He is becoming a great reader and writer too. He's excited to start Kindergarten. He has a great Spanish accent which he practices at Spanish preschool. He loves watching shows--of any kind--and would probably sit in front of the TV all day if I let him. He is our great inventor and likes to build with legos or the erector set. He loves super heroes. He doesn't like change. He'd be happy with frosted flakes for breakfast, pb&j for lunch and pasta for dinner every day. He'd also prefer to stay in his pjs all day too. He wants to be a Daddy and a spy when he grows up.

Maybe he's such a Daddy's boy because he looks so much like him.
